Never promote a product that you are not familiar with and if possible try the product first, especially if you plan on mailing out to your list. Affiliate Marketing Step #2: Go For Digital Products Rather Than Physical

Digital products offer commissions of up to 75%, sometimes more, because the creator doesn’t' have to cover shipping costs or overheads related to owning a store such as rent, tax or stock, so this means they can be a lot more generous with your profit margins. The best place to look is Clickbank.

Affiliate Marketing Step #3: Always Look At The Conversion Rate

Basically the higher the conversion rate, the more rewards you will see for your efforts. Do your research first and see how well the sales copy is converting into sales. If the copy is no good then it doesn’t' matter how much traffic you send that way, you’re not going to make any money. Try and look for products with a 3% conversion rate or more.

If you are using the Clickbank Marketplace to find digital products to promote, then a good place to start is the gravity score of the product. A score of zero to five means you should stay well clear. Basically it’s not making many sales at all, so this would be nothing other than a waste of your time and efforts.

A score of 10 or more means that the product is making a lot money. This means that the sales copy for that product is currently converting really well. However, I would also consider taking a look at the amount of competing pages you’re up against if the gravity score was more than 150, because you don’t want to be promoting a product that has thousands of other affiliate marketers currently cashing in on it, it will just prove too hard unless you have your own mailing list.

Any good product creator will provide affiliates with everything they need to successfully promote their product. You don't want to be messing around creating your own promotional material.
